Fellow liberals: If Republicans do retake Congress in 2010, how long should we give them to fix the economy?

Based on the standards they have imposed on Obama and the Democrats, I would think we would be within our rights to start demanding that the economy be completely fixed by February 1, 2011, if not sooner. Don't you?

I would also expect unemployment to drop to 4% within two weeks.

What's more, I have every right to think that every bill proposed or adopted by the new Republican Congress should be:

1. Less than 10 pages long.
2. Able to completely solve any economic program within days of passage.
3. Capable of decreasing taxes while simultaneously wiping out the deficit.

These expectations seem completely reasonable, don't they? After all, they are the same expectations that the Republicans have been imposing on the Democrats since September 5, 2008. We have every right to use the same standards on them that they have been using on us. It's only fair.

Note that I am not saying that in fact, the Republicans will retake Congress. I just saying that IF they do, we will certainly treat them with the same set of expectations they have used on the Democrats.

Note that these are not MY standards. They are the standards that I am learning to use from Republicans. They are the legacy of the Republican approach to governance for the last several years.

I get $192: Has it occurred to you that George W. Bush also had a veto pen from 2007 (not 2006) when Democrats first re-took Congress, until he left office?

LOL. Great point. They'll still have President Obama in the White House to point fingers at, though. But I don't think they're going to do as well in November as they think. They're fighting too much among themselves about who's more conservative.
Edit to Lady: Health care reform passed. Banking reform passed. Unemployment benefits extended. All with no help from the Republicans. Yeah, that's some failure--not that you guys didn't do your best to try to screw everything up.

-Since most liberals can't even read (or they would have read the 10 page AZ law before criticizing it) i would think it won't matter how long our laws are. Obama won't read it anyway before he vetoes it and it goes back to congress to get another vote to override him.
-Liberals have been in congress since 2006. They have been successful in passing plenty of legislation like the stimulus package. Bush signed it to TRY and give the libs a chance at fixing this mess. But it failed. Giving us 1 yr is not what you had to fix the country and failed. You don't need republicans to vote for anything. You have enough votes without them right now. If we had that and could override obama's veto, this would already be fixed. Probably within a year or so we would at least be creating more jobs then Obama.
-Raising taxes to "fix the deficit" only works when you stop spending 10x more then what you take in. It is simple math. Bill gets paid 10 dollars and spends 25 dollars he is negative 15. He gets a raise to 16 dollars and spends 50 dollars now, he is not out of debt. Bill is still in debt by 24 dollars. Multiply this by trillions and it is the same concept. Learn to add and subtract, then come talk to me.
Talk to me in emails if you think I am wrong. I will be happy to refer you to a math website so you can learn to add and subtract.
-The Republicans definitely will retake congress. Look at the approval ratings of congress when the liberals took it over last time. It was a higher approval rating then the 11% that congress has now. Oh and last I checked Obama's approval rating wasn't so high either. Your own party is starting to shy away when they realized what is goin on. You should stop following blindly and open your eyes.

I really don't see how they'll take back control, given the weirdo people who are running for the House and Senate, but if they do, it would be fair to give them about the same amount of time they gave Obama. 3 months max.

Unfortunately, in 3 months they'll be close to COMPLETELY finishing off America and they think Obama is taking away their freedoms. What a joke. If they win, we'll all have to wear tea bags, speak in tongues when praying and will have to live in their phony, sheltered Cinderella world. I feel god blessed this country with Obama and Democratic control and I have faith, he's not going to take that away.

Republicans have become the vilest people in this country and I don't think God takes kindly to that. AMEN....

The global depression is a bipartisan resolution. In either case there will be further devaluation of the dollar, corrupt bailouts, CPI increase, larger deficit, nationalization of economic sectors coinciding with corporate back-scratching.

The guy with the humping elephant picture is right.
