Last One: What band/performer has stepped out of their respecitive genres to crossover and leave an impact on?

Rock Music. You know, they may have a country following, pop following, spanish standards following but then they cross-over and do some rock music. My question is who do you thing (using above guidelines) has managed to be a huge influence on Rock; even though it wasn't their regular genre.

My choice would be The Charlie Daniels Band. He is much a rocker as he is an Americana musician, country, bluegrass, whatever. His cross-0vers have inspired more rockers than I believe any of us could possibly realize.

So who do you think influenced rock with their cross-over succes?

Buckethead. This person (?) is a very talented guitar player and can play many different genres.
Funk fusion, dark ambiance, heavy metal, spanish classicals, blue grass fusion.
Though most of the songs though his albums seem to be jumbled full of bizarre sounds, every track or so you'll come across some real diamonds.

johnny cash. hands down he sang country but he was all rock and roll.
also a very close second would be bob dylan he started out as a folk artist and after famously "went electric" music was never the same. though his music has always had folk styled undertones.

yeah I think it'd be Beastie Boys or you could even argue that Rage Against the Machine wasn't pure rock, and Tom Morello revolutionized the guitar.

Eric Clapton.
