Snake plants don't attract snakes any more than any other plant. Snakes do like plants because of the shelter and feed (insects, rodents and amphibians) they may harbor.

Snake plants don't attract snakes. The leaves look like snake's tongue. That's why they call it Snake Plant.

Keep your plant on the dry side. The growth on old damaged leaves are pups. Leave them for now and when they are large enough you can transplant them. See source for more information about growing sansevierias (snakeplants).
