Conservative Commentators?

Question

I'm just wondering, how is it that conservative commentators and authors have slipped so badly intellectually in the past 10 to 15 years. These days you have Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity. All of which have no education beyond High School and are basically entertainers. Go back a bit to guys like William Buckley. The guy was intelligent, well educated and highly regarded as a reasonable and tactful conservative. Even if you didn't agree with him, it was still enjoyable to read his work. 
  So, now, what has happened to the conservative value's of intellect in this country, it jsut seems it's slipped to empty headed ditto heads that quote the radio screaming heads. What happened ?

They try to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
People forget that they are merely entertainers in it for a buck, or lots of bucks.

The whole thing is pretty sad.  Limbaugh loves to use logical fallacies and they eat it up, thinking he is clever.
Pay attention to how Fox conducts their straw man interviews.  Any intelligent person sees right through this but their hard core audience loves it.

They simply repeat what they think these people want to hear and they certainly don't want anything with intellectual content.

It's the dumbing-down of America and the pride that so many have for not being well-educated.   Crap like American Idol and all the other "reality" TV,  the obsession with celebrities, women who breed litters of babies becoming famous for that, a cell-phone in every ear and so much other stuff has become "normal".  The 24 hour news cycle and opinion masquerading as news.

Some of the old time high schoolers are a lot more intelligent than the college grads you have today.  Look at Obama.  He can't even balance a check book.  I hope this is intelligent enough for you.

To be fair... I have learned more from self-education than I have with two Bachelors degrees and a Grad degree.

Not everyone could afford to go to college... especially 30 years ago.

side note - Didn't Olbermann get a degree in 'agriculture'?

Would you have known that they didn't have a college education if someone didn't tell you? Be honest now. 

BTW Palin graduated from the University of Idaho. Does this mess up your theory?
