Why do people insist on telling pregnant women their horror stories?

Not just little warnings about how it's gonna hurt during labor. But terrible miscarriage, bloody images and toe curling stories. Is it polite to ask them to stop? Some these stories shock my hubby, so I don't think I'm being over sensitive.

they just want to scare people or maybe describing there own birth to make people feel sorry for them? you never really know, they may want to try and make men understand how painful birth is and tell them they have it easy!
something i personally would not talk about, if i had a bad experience i would not want to worry or offend/upset people

Of course, you can say that you prefer not to know what to expect and that you prefer also not to think about delivery you are taking it day by day and would appreciate changing the subject.
Women like to talk about these things because:
They like to share
They like to give advice always even when not needed to show they have experience
They are women...that is what they do best.

never mind , don't listen and don't let them share stories you don't want to hear.

I usually listen just so when i go through labor it would feel much less painful compared to what people made me expect ;)

Wouldn't you tell people you don't want to hear horror stories about any event in life if you weren't pregnant?

If you don't want to hear them, just say, "Hey, I'd rather not here that."
