So im looking at a new gun for Elk and Moose?

I was thinking maybe a .17HMR, but i want to be able to get 400+ yard shots with only A) Iron sights, or B) and EOtech holo sight. If i start handloading them, will i be able to get the power up there to Elk standards, or do i need to keep the crew manned full auto cane toad launcher? My crew is SOOO noisy and its costing me a fortune to feed them. Not to mention that all the dang croaking is scaring the game off.

Thoughts?

I would buy something a little less power full. The 17 will leave no meat. When I hunt squirrels I use a 300 win mag and it don't ruin the meat. So use the right gun for the right game. For moose and elk and up to a 600 yard shot with open sights I break out my trusty old red rider. I have even harvested grizzles with one shot, without damaging the meat or pelt.

Dude, a .17? OVERKILL.
You need an airsoft SNIPER at 583748 FPS. Thats what all the cool airsofties use!
It can take down a grizzly with like uhm 2 shots dood!
the cane toad launcher - save that for teh l33t polar bearz! Tehy are tough as nails yo!

You can use that pipsqueak gun if you want but I am sticking with my .577 GBW (great blue whale). It uses a necked-down 40mm shell and fires a 900 grain bullet at 3900 fps from a 72 inch barrel. I use surplus WWII cordite for propellant.
