How do I stop my Puppy from eating her poop?

My puppy has been eating her own poop, but only at night time! Any other time thought out day she leaves her poop alone. I'm feeding her the right food, told her she was a good girl when she went on the puppy pad, & I make sure she goes out 1 last time before I go to bed. But she still eats her poop at night while i'm asleep. How do I stop her?

simple. add a slice or two of pinapple to her dinner and she will think of it as a treat. however, you will find, that she won't want to eat it then. I hope this helps. The smell of the pinapple in her poop is a smell we can't smell but something that she sure can.

I've never dealt with this problem personally.
But I have heard that if you feed your dog pineapple pieces it makes the poop taste bad and your dog won't eat it. Again, I've never tested this, so I couldn't say for certain if it works.

Your puppy might be eating too fast and not taking time to chew the food, making it not digest properly and seeming the same when it comes out as it did when it went in. Look for this behavior and see if it can be corrected.

My dachshund eats his poop as well...I think it is actually an ingrained primitive survival tactic. They eat their poo to eliminate their scent in the area. Not sure how much I believe this though, since he tends to eat any poo he finds. The poo is outside by the way....and my dog is nearly 14 years old. This is the one thing I was never ever able to break him of, otherwise he's a great dog.

Maybe crating your pup at night is the best solution. Using potty pads inside is not the best idea either. Aside from the obvious hygiene concerns, and the offensive odor, you are only confusing the dog. He/she should have a spot outside to potty.

puppy pads are your worst enemy.
a puppy should not be encouraged to potty during the night. it must be crated where it can not potty. allowing a pup to use a puppy pad will only hinder your housebreaking.
"gee, this carpet sorta feels like my pee pad!!"
and allowing the pup to potty in the house at night is perpetuating a REALLY bad habit. you need to be teaching the pup to HOLD IT all night.
so, get rid of the puppy pads, and crate the pup at night in a crate just large enough for her to lie down, turn around, and stand up in. set your alarm and take the pup out in the middle of the night of you are reasonably sure she can't hold it all night yet.

Dispose of the poop before you go to bed. Preferably in front of your pup.
