I am appealing to all of you DVD techies out there! I'm frustrated! My DVD player has stopped working!?

More to the point, I bought a DVD player--an IView HD--about seven months ago.  Up until now it worked beautifully but, for some reason, it has stopped playing discs.  I mean, either it won't play at all or when it does the disc "freezes" shortly afterward.  Shutting it on and off, or opening and closing the disc tray hasn't helped.  I'm new to this technology.  Before I begin the search for a reputable (?) DVD player repair shop (if any exists) is there anything else I should do?  Aren't DVD players supposed to work a little longer than seven months?!!

If you are NOT in the U.S. .. good luck in finding a good repair shop.

If you are in the U.S. .. chances are you will spend more on repair costs that its almost like buying another unit. They charge you diagnostic fee and then repair fee plus parts. Before you know it, you have waited so many weeks and so much have been charges. So grin and bear it, and get a new one.

However .. it may just be a dirty head reader. Not very often but it does happen. They sell DVD Head cleaners at Walmart or Target (or the likes) and it just might work. I hate to be the bearer of not so good news, but this is NOT the case, most of the time.

well, of course they should last longer, but since most only have a 30 or 60 day guarantee, there's no guarantee they;ll last more than that for a good reason.  That's only a $60 unit on Amazon right now! definitely not worth getting repaired.  Repair will almost certainly more than that. It's a throw-away.
