My husband visits adult sites. Could he have gotten a computer virus from one of these sites that completely shut down his tower? He thinks I am just saying that because I want him to stop visiting the sites.

There is an electrical problem somewhere and that's a fact. So, first step is to unplug the computer and plug a know working lamp into the same exact outlet. If that works, the you either have a blown fuse or a fried power supply in your computer.
Other than that, take care of business at the house and the old man will not need to check things out elsewhere.
