You have to know what you are doing to fire a .44 Mag with one hand, that's for sure. It hits pretty hard, especially with good ol' Buffalo Bore hard cast loads in there. The lower grains are not bad at all, more or less like hot .357s, and the heavier weights are not fun. From what I recall from Dirty Harry, those loads looked pretty light, but it's been a while. Try it out with 210 grain loads, they are pretty light. If you aren't comfortable with those, there's no reason to move up. Most people, me included, are not that accurate one handed with revolvers.
I've never met anyone who couldn't, including the neighbor kids 17 year old 105lb girl friend who came over when we were shooting air holes in a new burn barrel. no one told her a 44 mag was supposed to be hard to shoot so she just picked it up one handed & put 4 out of 6 shots through a beer can @ around 25yds and asked the neighbor kid to show her how to load it so she could shoot some more. picture 4 grown men standing around with their fingers in their ears & their jaws dropping while this little bitty farm girl with no hearing protection bounces a beer can around the back yard with a 44 mag black hawk & asks for more bullets.
I LOVE to shoot my 44 mags one handed! Its fun and I think it’s a good idea to be able to do so. What if you injured one hand or for some reason cant use it and your being attacked? I set cans up and shoot them with my handloads that are hot 240gr XTP loads and 320 hard cast lead loads, with one hand. No big deal except those hot 320gr bear loads will leave my palm sore after a few boxes of ammo.
