Did Mercedes loose it's "cool" factor?

When?
Why?
What's your thought?
Would you buy one?

I ask this because the resale value has dropped off the scale.
They're super cheap now.

Super cheap???? How do you figure?

About 5 years ago you could've bought an entry level for about $25k now it's well over $30k. Plus many of their models became far more expensive.

If you are basing your opinion on used S-class then you obviously dont know that the resale on high end luxury sedans have always been awful. Look at some used BMW 7-series for example.

As for the cool factor, I think they are far superior than they were even few years ago. The ML went from looking like a Chrysler minivan to a jazzy cool looking SUV. Even the entry level models look awesome. No longer look plain and boring of yester years.

As far as reliability goes they still trail Lexus, Acura and Infiniti.

Cool they didn't lose, its VALUE that Plummeted.

Since they got pretty cheep recently (along with BMW) lots of younger people will buy them, look cool in them and set a trend or 2 (maybe), so their cool, just not Cool on the repair costs.

The cars are great, the only MAJOR problem is repair costs, compared to a FORD the repair costs are absolutely Horrifying in more and more cases, True upkeep and ownership costs are very high compared to the actual value of most of these BMW and Mercedes cars.

they are still number one/the germans do it all the time with the over enginerring especially on the computers etc/beemers are also like that and some of the vw/trick is to sort out one that doesnt have to much junk on it and buy that/but as a customer that traded his lexus in and got fresh 7 series bmw/"i had the imitation and now i got the real thing"

1998~99

When they started making unreliable cars. In the earlier years, you would hear like this Mercedes is built like a tank, marvel in engineering, etc... Not these days.
