The Police (UK) have Seized my Friends laptop through no fault of her own, they are currently checking the hard drive for Indecent Images, They have told my friend that if they find anything they will keep the laptop and never get it back. Who has to pay to get a new laptop, The Police or My friend?
It was her Brother that put the images on her laptop, And handed the laptop in voluntarily and reported her brother to the police

indeed, if it has indecent images not only will she not get her laptop back, but she'll have a lot more to worry about, should there not be any images on there then as far as im aware she'll get it back or an alternative but usually its the same one they take that you get back so as to not cause loss of personal documents.

Here in the USA, the police cannot merely seize without probable cause. It's become a lower standard. If nothing is found on the laptop, it must be returned according to USA law. If any item seized is not contrand, illegal or gotten with illegal activity, the police have no right to seizee and retain it.
USA law was fashioned after English law, so these principles should apply

If the police keep the laptop, your friend should be worrying about spending money on lawyers rather than a new laptop. And even if your friend gets acquitted, they still won't pay for the laptop.

Well, if they find something your friend will have a lot more to worry about than getting a new laptop. Your friend will ultimately pay the price either way.
