Can someone tell me if these E-readers, like Kindle, have a backlit screen for reading in the dark. None of the various types has any information if this screen is visible in a dark room, or if there is already a lighted screen that would preclude the need for this feature

Most basic e readers such as the kindle and nook use e ink which isn't back lit and cant be read in the dark. Barnes and Nobles, however, just recently released a new version of the nook called the nook color that has a back lit color display that runs on a modified version of android. It retails for around 250 dollars.
most of them do. kindle doesn't. it uses e-ink, i think it's called. there's no glare in sunlight, like with all the other readers that have backlit screens, basically it's like paper. you need a booklight.
