What meaning do the words 'divine feminine' hold for you?
I hear much about the divine feminine and I am curious to hear your thoughts, feelings and personal experiences. Looking back in history it seems the planet has been energized by mostly masculinity. It seems out of balance. How do you think the world would change if on an individual level, we started embracing qualities perceived of as feminine, and on a global level...we started to embrace characteristics we (collective we) currently label 'weak', 'overly soft', etc. (characteristics such as expressing our feelings openly and without inhibition, nurturing, less aggression, etc)
*I am not saying I am against masculine energies...not at all...I am just saying I notice a historical trend of mostly cherishing masculine qualities while suppressing feminine ones. This doesn't just hurt females...it hurts males too and all of us... I feel a balance is needed if we are to be truly whole.
BONUS: We hear much about God being our father...but what about our divine mother? What are your thoughts on that? Or do you feel God is genderless? Is one god both our mother and father?

Well, first i'm going to say that the Sages Across The Ages a large percentage of humanity reverences the *most* are those who had "divine feminine" qualities. These would include Jesus Christ, Buddha and Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu's TAO TE CHING praises the qualities of the divine feminine.
Tao Teh Ching 5
The Tao is called the Great Mother: empty yet inexhaustible, it gives birth to infinite worlds.

"Most of Jesus’ sayings about how to live were from the female perspective. Resist not one who does evil; love and forgive your enemies; turn the other cheek; ask not back for what is taken from you by someone else; take no thought for your life or what to eat or wear, but trust God to provide; first, take the beam out of your own eye; let the one without sin cast the first stone; as you sow, you reap; as you judge, so will you be judged; worry not what to say when called before the tribunal, the Holy Spirit will put the words into your mouth; not my, but your will be done, O Lord, and so forth." -- as Sloan Bashinsky wrote.

As i reflect upon it, i realize that, paradoxically, the divine feminine holds *both* images of shadows & light for me, personally! There's the mystique, the Mystery, the Veilings, the Hidden Secrets of the Feminine Divine, the mysterious valley of Taoism compared to the masculinity of the upthrusting mountain... the mystery of the void of outer space, our Cosmic Mother's womb.
The earliest experience of Goddess that i remember was a Dream i had in latter 1973. i was in the realms of the afterlife seeking a particular feminine individual i was especially attracted to. After going thru a seemingly never-ending maze of rooms, i found what i thought might be her, lying alone on a cot near a wall, with a cover over her, her face towards the wall, her back towards me. i took her left shoulder & turned her towards me to see if it was Marjorie -- & it was the face of *Her!* -- a super-nova of L!I!G!H!T! that startled me suddenly awake, my heart racing, the blood thundering thru my arteries & i was literally *shaking* for at least 5 minutes. It took me 29 years before i had the *vocabulary* in the divine feminine to *realize* that that Dream had been of Sophia, of Goddess, Herself.
"Let there be LIGHT!" -- & there was Sophia! -- Mother of the All!
In early 2001 i was getting out of bed one morning, intent on writing a piece "In Defense of Sophia" -- responding to an attack upon the Sophia Women of the Re:Imagining Conferences by a retired Methodist Bishop, when i "heard" Her Voice (telepathically) saying, "There is no need to defend me; I am already in charge of it all."
She has spoken to me several more times across the years, since. Some of what She has said to me has been:
"I am who caused you. The very Love from which you were born was me." Feb. 12, 2003
"Maybe I'm inside of you; you're inside of me," She sang liltingly, playfully. 11.Nov.03
On April 14, 2004 i "heard" the Voice of Yeshua ask, "What does Sophia Herself have to speak?" Then Sophia spoke and said, "I show the Light -- but I purify Jesus, John the Baptist out of the whirlwind."
On March 3, 2004 Yeshua, over the thought-waves, told me, "Reflective hearts run invisibly to Her;" & in early Feb. 2004 he said, "She is the living fire." i think we could interpret that as meaning Kundalini...
On Apr. 1, 2004, She said to me, "I am a forgotten new vision in the making;" and on 16.May.04 She said, "I will pour my love out on you."
On 18.May.04 Yeshua disclosed, "Love precedes faith. Love is the Mother of all Wisdom."
This kind of recounting can go on & on & on across the years since then (much of it still to be extracted from the massive chaos of all that has been "heard" telepathically -- & written down).

For The Eternal Beloved
In You, Beloved, there are no "enemies" -- for each is a face of You, however asleep our souls may be, however unawakened our hearts in Your Love, however foggy & confused our minds, however extensive our denial of You.
Awakening into You happens in its own time. The seed cannot become the fruit-producing tree according to a schedule of our own desire. Evelos
All-bountiful Sophia, You are an abundant Tree of Life, providing shade & the fruits of life for our nurturing. You are a tree we can climb into the very Heavens of You, a canopy still sheltering us, but drawing our gaze ever higher -- reaching for the *juiciest* & *ripest* fruits of our desire... fruits of Immortality.
There is a long history in Christianity - particularly in Eastern Catholicism - venerating the sacred feminine in the person of the Virgin Mary, and in the personification of wisdom in the form of Sophia. Neither of these are included as members of the Trinity. However, certain Gnostic Christian sects do consider the Trinity to be an actual family unit - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Mother. In most of these cases, the person of Sophia (not Mary) has been combined with the Holy Ghost into a single mother goddess figure.
I have read of times when it was a matriarchal rather than patriarchal leadership and it sounds better, gentler, but still not balanced. Holding men subordinate to female guidance is just as bad as the other way around. You are right, balance is imperative. But how to achieve this seems to be as difficult as trying to say my body does not hurt when it hurts. My perspective of the Divine Feminine and Masculine comes from Genesis. "And Darkness (masc.) was upon the face of the waters (fem.). (Father/Mother analogy while "Let there be Light" is what the two of them give birth to, the Son) In nearly all cultures, water is symbolic of the feminine principle. In Gnosticism, the feminine is wisdom, intuition, creativity and it is the depth or profundity of the masculine that gives her form. Otherwise, the waters alone are chaotic, a lot of potential but no form. Same with the masculine... without the feminine, nothing to give form to. Our spiritual evolution has been a succession of unbalanced leadership. The dualistic nature of this existence I feel is to blame. Swinging back and forth over large cycles of time surely will pave the way for that balance you mention.
