What meaning do the words 'divine feminine' hold for you?
I hear much about the divine feminine and I am curious to hear your thoughts, feelings and personal experiences. Looking back in history it seems the planet has been energized by mostly masculinity. It seems out of balance. How do you think the world would change if on an individual level, we started embracing qualities perceived of as feminine, and on a global level...we started to embrace characteristics we (collective we) currently label 'weak', 'overly soft', etc. (characteristics such as expressing our feelings openly and without inhibition, nurturing, less aggression, etc)
*I am not saying I am against masculine energies...not at all...I am just saying I notice a historical trend of mostly cherishing masculine qualities while suppressing feminine ones. This doesn't just hurt females...it hurts males too and all of us... I feel a balance is needed if we are to be truly whole.
BONUS: We hear much about God being our father...but what about our divine mother? What are your thoughts on that? Or do you feel God is genderless? Is one god both our mother and father?
I don't give thumbs down...all viewpoints are warmly received :)

Well, first i'm going to say that the Sages Across The Ages a large percentage of humanity reverences the *most* are those who had "divine feminine" qualities. These would include Jesus Christ, Buddha and Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu's TAO TE CHING praises the qualities of the divine feminine.
Tao Teh Ching 5
The Tao is called the Great Mother:
empty yet inexhaustible,
it gives birth to infinite worlds.
"Most of Jesus’ sayings about how to live were from the female perspective. Resist not one who does evil; love and forgive your enemies; turn the other cheek; ask not back for what is taken from you by someone else; take no thought for your life or what to eat or wear, but trust God to provide; first, take the beam out of your own eye; let the one without sin cast the first stone; as you sow, you reap; as you judge, so will you be judged; worry not what to say when called before the tribunal, the Holy Spirit will put the words into your mouth; not my, but your will be done, O Lord, and so forth." -- as Sloan Bashinsky wrote.

As i reflect upon it, i realize that, paradoxically, the divine feminine holds *both* images of shadows & light for me, personally! There's the mystique, the Mystery, the Veilings, the Hidden Secrets of the Feminine Divine, the mysterious valley of Taoism compared to the masculinity of the upthrusting mountain... the mystery of the void of outer space, our Cosmic Mother's womb.
The earliest experience of Goddess that i remember was a Dream i had in latter 1973. i was in the realms of the afterlife seeking a particular feminine individual i was especially attracted to. After going thru a seemingly never-ending maze of rooms, i found what i thought might be her, lying alone on a cot near a wall, with a cover over her, her face towards the wall, her back towards me. i took her left shoulder & turned her towards me to see if it was Marjorie -- & it was the face of *Her!* -- a super-nova of L!I!G!H!T! that startled me suddenly awake, my heart racing, the blood thundering thru my arteries & i was literally *shaking* for at least 5 minutes. It took me 29 years before i had the *vocabulary* in the divine feminine to *realize* that that Dream had been of Sophia, of Goddess, Herself.
"Let there be LIGHT!" -- & there was Sophia! -- Mother of the All!
In early 2001 i was getting out of bed one morning, intent on writing a piece "In Defense of Sophia" -- responding to an attack upon the Sophia Women of the Re:Imagining Conferences by a retired Methodist Bishop, when i "heard" Her Voice (telepathically) saying, "There is no need to defend me; I am already in charge of it all."
She has spoken to me several more times across the years, since. Some of what She has said to me has been:
"I am who caused you. The very Love from which you were born was me." Feb. 12, 2003
"Maybe I'm inside of you; you're inside of me," She sang liltingly, playfully. 11.Nov.03
On April 14, 2004 i "heard" the Voice of Yeshua ask, "What does Sophia Herself have to speak?" Then Sophia spoke and said, "I show the Light -- but I purify Jesus, John the Baptist out of the whirlwind."
On March 3, 2004 Yeshua, over the thought-waves, told me, "Reflective hearts run invisibly to Her;" & in early Feb. 2004 he said, "She is the living fire." i think we could interpret that as meaning Kundalini...
On Apr. 1, 2004, She said to me, "I am a forgotten new vision in the making;" and on 16.May.04 She said, "I will pour my love out on you."
On 18.May.04 Yeshua disclosed, "Love precedes faith. Love is the Mother of all Wisdom."
This kind of recounting can go on & on & on across the years since then (much of it still to be extracted from the massive chaos of all that has been "heard" telepathically -- & written down).

For The Eternal Beloved
In You, Beloved, there are no "enemies" -- for each is a face of You, however asleep our souls may be, however unawakened our hearts in Your Love, however foggy & confused our minds, however extensive our denial of You.
Awakening into You happens in its own time. The seed cannot become the fruit-producing tree according to a schedule of our own desire. Evelos
All-bountiful Sophia, You are an abundant Tree of Life, providing shade & the fruits of life for our nurturing. You are a tree we can climb into the very Heavens of You, a canopy still sheltering us, but drawing our gaze ever higher -- reaching for the *juiciest* & *ripest* fruits of our desire... fruits of Immortality.
Source(s): Crying out Your Name with all the passion of our being, You enfold us into the holiness of You. Evelos When I sleep, I know Your Love enfolds me. When I awaken, Dear Goddess, You sustain me. Knowing You, deeply, there *is* no fear. Death, itself, is but another Face of You... a darker embrace in our expectations, like passage from the womb to new life. In my loving may i ever love as *You* love, Beloved. You encompass all that *is*. Though minds create a sense of division, alienation, from You... in denial of You... yet Your Love still encompasses all these, too, invisibly. Invisibility is a blessing, in You. It is *Your* Spirit that delivers us from our bondage to false values, false perceptions, false conceptions. May the blessings of Your Holy Spirit free *all* beings from the bondage of ignorance. Evelos ~~wynn manners 15.June.2010 - Anonymous5 years ago
There is a long history in Christianity - particularly in Eastern Catholicism - venerating the sacred feminine in the person of the Virgin Mary, and in the personification of wisdom in the form of Sophia. Neither of these are included as members of the Trinity. However, certain Gnostic Christian sects do consider the Trinity to be an actual family unit - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Mother. In most of these cases, the person of Sophia (not Mary) has been combined with the Holy Ghost into a single mother goddess figure.

I have read of times when it was a matriarchal rather than patriarchal leadership and it sounds better, gentler, but still not balanced. Holding men subordinate to female guidance is just as bad as the other way around. You are right, balance is imperative. But how to achieve this seems to be as difficult as trying to say my body does not hurt when it hurts.
My perspective of the Divine Feminine and Masculine comes from Genesis. "And Darkness (masc.) was upon the face of the waters (fem.). (Father/Mother analogy while "Let there be Light" is what the two of them give birth to, the Son) In nearly all cultures, water is symbolic of the feminine principle. In Gnosticism, the feminine is wisdom, intuition, creativity and it is the depth or profundity of the masculine that gives her form. Otherwise, the waters alone are chaotic, a lot of potential but no form. Same with the masculine... without the feminine, nothing to give form to.
Our spiritual evolution has been a succession of unbalanced leadership. The dualistic nature of this existence I feel is to blame. Swinging back and forth over large cycles of time surely will pave the way for that balance you mention.

Your question shows wisdom or Sophia in Greek, what could have birthed this wisdom if not the Divine Feminine, the Holy Spirit, the Shakti, thank you.
First, a brief history of my personal experiences relevant to your question: Not so long after learning and practicing Zen meditation I was doing some painting at a golf course near the club house when suddenly without warning everything and everyone started falling away and I found myself in what the Buddhist term "the void", in that place I saw the Buddha that can not be killed and it was I, the absolute and this was also the absolute state of all people and things, even stones. An awesome experience to say the least, slowly things started coming back into view and I took the view then that all things were like a 3 dimensional movie projected by the absolute, I walked around in amazement for weeks afterward, this happened in 1995. I continued to practice meditation in the hopes of dissolving back into the absolute permanently but as I am here we can see that didn't happen. :) So I found myself seemingly stuck in Maya (illusion) with seemingly no way to get out. As the search continued I found myself drawn to Hinduism especially that of Hindu Tantra, the Yoga of Shiva and Shakti and began to learn of the Divine Feminine energy of Shakti the Kundalini Shakti. As fate would have it I met a *woman* a few years later well versed in Tantra and was open enough through the practice of meditation to receive Shaktipat from her, this jolted my Kundalini awake and so began not only Kriyas (automatic body and energy movements) but I began to be flooded with insights into the nature of reality with this energy, this Kundalini Shakti. It became clear that the physical universe and everything in it is the movement, the ecstatic embodiment of the Divine thus making this life sacred, all life sacred. This ecstatic embodiment and its movement had been what I was searching for, the falling into and perceiving the absolute that is out of time and space, transcendent of the physical experience was only half of the whole, half of awakening. Only with the embodiment of the Divine, the Divine Feminine, is awakening whole and this awakening continues on..............for eternity.
Thank you again for this question and you are correct that the non recognition of the Divine Feminine hurts not only females but males also, there is so much healing that needs to take place in both men and women but luckily this healing is not far away for those willing to let go of ideas that don't really work in the scheme of things anyway and embrace the life affirmative and healing powers of the Goddess.

The divine masculine or feminine is using the qualities in the right way. Masculine has been used for competition. Feminine has been used for pitying, both in negative connotations. Aggressiveness can be used in a way that helps everyone. In a competition the opponent can be your teacher rather than your enemy. Compassion the same way. We can support the greatest in another instead of condoning weakness. It's not in the balancing of the genders for each should be used in its proper place. It's the distortion of the qualities that needs to be corrected.

well, I am agnostic I guess but if God did exist I would think he/she would think God would be genderless, people try and humanize God so that they can relate to him/her more but if God was a man or woman he/she wouldn't really be that great, just one of us. I think that once there are less people who believe in religions that assign gender roles, then women and homosexuals will be truly treated as equals to straight men, not just by embracing these qualities you mention above, but accepting that every individual can posses any quality without being labeled

Me personally......just another adjective....like
gorgeous, WoW, set apart, attributes worth admiration and recognition
but I am just expressing "my" feelings openly....as a dumb, stupid "male" human
...lol..and I like feisty girls.....cause the dumb, stupid "male" human in me
respects and admires strength......HHHHHhhhmmmmm
The feminine kind ....and the masculine kind
Fragile .........is more for pity ....in men too.......right
But I never did look at strength as control ....
or unneccessary brutality to gain leverage or agenda....HHHhhhhmmmm again
Always figured they were done out of weakness
Again probably just the dumb , stupid "male"human in me
Never did see what feminine had to do with weak...giving birth takes strength and stamina
OK so maybe females stink at arm wrestling....who really cares?
????? Woman who wish they were men????????
NOT YOU....you just asked a question
again....just...the dumb , stupid "male"human in me
As far as "Balance"
Be an awful ......"out of balance world" if there was no "Yang"...for the "Ying".....right
As far as God and gender....
.............does it really matter??????
That would be creating THEM in MY image and likeness
It is a God....and I am a dumb, stupid male human
Who expresses my feelings openly.....but DIFFERENT then a woman
Source(s): Many Catholics and Orthodox place real value on Mary as the mother of God They prey to her.....Their source of Divine feminine power AND .....we find in Celtic mythology a strong foundation in ancient goddess (mother earth) as we do in many Ancient cultures One more time for this forum ..."Maybe we forgot more then we know?" Maybe we forgot the REAL and IMPORTANT balance....HHHHhhhhmmmmm?
