Should we treat our elected like we do homeless people?

Ok here is my thinking/idea.

When we see a person begging on the street asking for money what is the 1st thought that goes through our head if we are honest? I know most think "if I give him money he will spend it on booze" some think to give them actual food rather than money so they know their contribution isn't wasted.

So what if we did the same with those in both houses and the White House? Instead of giving them our tax money that they can go spend on "booze" let them present ideas and if we like them we buy the stuff for it.

I know this isn't practical but there are similarities and it would make more sense than letting them waste our tax dollars and then tell us how they need to tax people who make too much money to pay for their spending. Just like the bum is still hungry after buying booze, DC is still hungry after buying pork

This is intriguing and if it could work on such a large scale, I would be all for it.

But in reality, the best we can do is throw the bums out frequently. Members of Congress are like diapers, they should be changed often and for the same reason.

And voters need to wake up to the reality of elections. So many more vote in the general elections than in the primaries that it is absurd. Change of government does not happen in the general elections, it happens in the primaries. Therefore, our complacency is why Congress can have a 15% approval rating the day before the 2008 election and still get reelected 83%. You see, the establishment voters vote in the primaries and they vote for the good ol' boy. At the general election (except when a party has been HORRIBLE) we do not see a major shift like we saw in 2006 and an even greater shift in 2010.

This is because so many will not vote against their party, so if the establishment voters put forth the same incumbents in the primaries election after election, then the general election sees them reelected.

So, I say that if you are only going to vote in ONE of the elections, make it the primary if you want to see a change in Congress. That is the ONLY place where you will truly impact change.
