Can a foreigner with valid tourist visa apply for a SSN so i can apply for NCLEX (nurse exam) in California?

I am planning to visit my family in California but i was wondering if i can get a Social Security Number during my stay there so I can apply for NCLEX exam (it is the exam needed to be passed in order to become a registered nurse in USA, short for Nursing Council Licensure Exam) in the California Board of Nursing. I will really appreciate your response. Thanks.

By the way, i don't have plans of overstaying there. I just really need the SSN so i can sit for the exam here in my country.

First answer- Ask the NLCEX folks if you can take the exam without a SSAN. If you explain that you're not a resident, they might allow you to use another identifying number, such as a passport number.

Next answer- Open a bank account. In order to do so, you'll need a SSAN and some are available to non-residents for tax purposes. They'll have a "not valid for employment" notation, but that's OK- you're not working, just taking an exam.

Last observation- when you get to take the exam, see if there are recruiters around who will get you either an H1B or a residency visa once you are certified as an RN. But that's the last part of your process. First, you need to take and pass the exam. Good luck!!

You can apply in your own country if your visa is valid for working in the United States. If your purpose is to visit only then NO cigar and no card.

No. Only US Citizen, US Permanent Resident, Non immigrant with temporary work visa or work permit can apply SSN.

No chance, it's almost impossible for a foreigner to get a snn. And nursing is not an in demand job
