I have babysitting experience, but not with kids this young. What are the basics about what I should know about a 15 month old boy. He's walking, but does he talk? What kind of food do they eat at this age? What entertains them? What kind of games can I play with him?

My sons 16 months and he babbles, he can say words like mamma, dadda, mmmm good, and yuck. He likes peek a boo and getting into everything. They just love human interaction. Ask his mom if he has a favorite toy, or even a few favorite toys. Babies this age are very energetic and playful. I would ask his mom to set out foods that he can eat. Every mom is different and so is every baby. Like for instance, most moms have their babies weaned off of their bottles and eating table foods and drinking out of a sippy cup, but my son can only eat certain foods and still drinks out of a bottle because of feeding problems. Don't be afraid to ask mom questions. Maybe she can write out a small guideline that you can refer to. Btw, don't be suprised if he cries when mommy leaves. If he isn't used to be watched this may happen. Just find ways to entertain him, its much more simple than you think.

He will be barely talking, though he might know a few words. He will understand some simple things, probably.
Ask the parents, but from what I remember, it was still mainly mushed up food at that age, and they need to be spoon fed. Absolutely avoid anything hard, like raw apple or carrot. I've heard of kids choking to death at that age (and older) from those.
Very simple games, like stacking pots or those ones where they press the button and a face comes up. And of course peek-a-boo. He's probably a little young for TV, but it depends how much he's seen. If he watches TV, his attention will only be held by shows made specifically for very young children.
Keep small things away from him. At that age, some kids are still putting anything they can find into their mouth.
He will nap some of the time, and of course you will need to change his nappy (diaper).

If i were you i would call the parents and ask them if would be ok for you to come over for a few hours on the weekend and shadow the mom, watch her routines, the things she gives him, the games they play, his nap times and so on, it also gives you both a chance to get to know each other before you are left alone with him.

ok so i have a neighbor about this age (he just turned 2) and ever since he was a year old hes been doing sign language (ya i thought it was crazy til i saw him do it) and he wont talk at all. so he might have some language skills. they mainley eat soft foods (mushy but not always babyfood just SOFT food) u mentioned he a lttle boy so im going 2 assume he like CARS!!! play with cars and teach/play fun hand games like patty cake and run around ad have fun! he'll let uk wat he does and dosent like 2 play with :).
