Running in the background on iPad?

I had my iPad jail-broken and was running an nice ap called Backgrounder. Then my wife updated the iPad, and I lost the jail-break. Is there now a Apple-approved way to run things (like Pandora...nice to have music while looking at email) in the background? Or is Backgrounder still the way to go?

Yes. Assuming you have iOS 4.2 installed that has multi-tasking.
