Yorkshire Pudding Cottage Pie?

I often buy those frozen giant yorkshire puddings from the supermarket. I put mince beef and onions (cooked) into them and top them off with mashed potato and cheese. Bake them in the oven until the yorkshire pudding is crispy and serve with vegetables. These are very very popular with my family, but I have no idea what to call them. I'm sure they must have been made before by others and have an official name. Anyone know what it is?

Cottage Pie Recipe

Cottage Pie is as traditional as Roast Beef in British cookery. Shepherd's Pie is made with Lamb normally, however, nowadays everyone understands that it is beef unless otherwise stated.

1 lb Ground Beef
1 tblsp cooking oil
1 med chopped Onion
1 cup hot water plus 4 heaped tsp of Bisto Granules
your choice Beef or Onion Bisto Granules
3 cups cooked, Mashed Potatoes
Salt & Pepper
2 cups of Cheddar Cheese (optional)

Heat the oil and fry the chopped onion until golden then add meat and cook until brown. Pour off excess oil. Stir in the Water and Bisto Granules, add Salt & Pepper to taste. Put meat mixture into an ovenproof dish, smooth over the mashed potato to cover the meat and form peeks on the surface with a fork. If you are using the cheese spread it over the peeked mashed potato.

Bake in the oven at 350 degrees F for 45 mins or until the top is golden brown.

That sounds tasty. I bake pecans with egg whites and spices and I call them the Tasty Pecan recipe for want of a better name. I don't know if there's a recipe in a cook book for yours with a name, call them whatever you want. How about Yorkshire Pie?

You can buy them in any supermarket with different fillings. They're called filled yorkshire puddings.
