Seniors: What Is An Effective High Blood Pressure Medication That Keeps Blood Pressure Down?
At this point I am thinking about going with an alternative high blood pressure medication from the health food store.
I have been on Lisinopril for about 2 1/2 months, and it lowers my blood pressure down some but it does not CONTROL it. It also has given me a dry cough and cold hands and feet.
My doctor had me on other blood pressure medications before Lisinopril but they did not work well with me. Definitely don't want any beta blockers.
I go for my walks, changed my diet to low sodium food, drink a lot of water, drink juice from the health food store, stopped smoking and still my bp is not under control. It's much lower but it's not under control
I first found about my hbp in July of 2010. Had a stent put in both of my arteries above my kidneys in November, my heart is fine..no blockage there. My blood pressure is much lower but today I walked to the store and when I got back home it spiked to 201/90. Don't have a clue why. I got it lowered but I am thoroughly frustrated with this.. 80% of the time it's good then it will spike.
Questions: 1. Can you have a stent TAKEN OUT of your body because I don't think it's working for me.
2. I know we all have different body types but is there a blood pressure medication that is really good at lowering the blood pressure and keeping it low?
3.Since I stopped smoking I have a desire to eat something sweet after I eat. I am not a diabetic(was tested for that) but could the sugar in the candy I eat affect my blood pressure readings? I love sherbet and gum drops
I see my doctor on the 23rd of this month and I am going to have him take me off the Lisinopril and put me on something else, but I want to give him a name.
I said I was THINKING about going the alternative route...I would never stop my meds before talking with my doctor first and getting his advice. DaisyMay, I DO NOT have high blood pressure due to the reasons you listed but I'm pretty certain I have high blood pressure because of something else going on in my body.
All the women in my family have always worried A LOT and thought the worse, usually over nothing. Of course, I'm the same way, so my blood pressure MIGHT be because of that.
I will talk to the doctor about that on the 23rd.
No one answered my question about having a stent taken OUT of the body.
To the person who commented about "people on here are not doctors"...I know they are not doctors but some people have had the same experience as others and can give some helpful insight.
If you don't have an answer to my questions please skip over it. I do not need anyone to tell me "no one on here is a doctor". Get a grip people.
I forgot to add I also take multi vitamin/mineral pills, vitamin D and garlic pills every day. My doctor knows this and says it's ok.
