My Philodendron is brown and crisp. Is it dead? What can I do? I remember last spring it came back to life?

Now the soil is all hard and nasty. It looks moist but it's hard. I think the Philodendron is a goner!

If this is in a pot, set and soak in water for about 30 minutes. Let drain and wait about a week to see if it comes back. If out side, water it slowly till it looks saturated. Again, only time will tell.
