Turn the chair into position so that the motor and accompanying actuating geometry is accessible. You'll note a rod or rods held in position by steel pins with "cotter" pins to hold them in place. Any one of these may be temporarily disconnected in order to retract the mechanism..

My Mom's pride chair got stuck in the UP position. I removed the cotter pin as you instructed and it worked; it sunk down into the closed position. It is still a somewhat functional chair as it will recline. Thank you so much, I have been looking for a solution for months as I cannot afford hundreds of dollars for replacement parts.

Before I answer I want to let you know I have a 5 lb Yorkie. Keep an eye on the dog, he may just be really frightened. if the vomiting continues, or if other symptoms appear, get him to a vet ASAP. This little dogs are like infants, it can go from bad to worse in a very short time. Always better safe than sorry with them. But yorkies are terriers and tough little dogs. Once he has calmed down if he keeps vomiting, get him to an emergency vet. In the mean time give him an extra cuddle and keep an eye on him. Just to be on the safe side limit food and water, incase there is a problem and the vet needs to do an emergency surgery.

The only way I can recommend is to take the motor out since you are going to do it anyway. That should disengage the drive and allow you to close it.
