Relocated to Seattle from Los Angeles and couldn't find teaching jobs there. What's going on?

I relocated due to my husband's job transfer. As an experienced teacher with tenure in LA I thought that it would be easy to get a job. I applied to several school districts to no response. One school contacted me about a substitute orientation but we'd already decided that we couldn't afford to live there on one income and returned. Is this par for the course or was it just bad timing? I'm asking because I still feel torn between both places and want some perspective from someone else who knows the area.

I actually have a job in Los Angeles to which I've returned RK...I was asking about Washington. I thought that by going with my husband to Washington State I could escape the budget cuts and the lemon principal we have here in LA but no such luck. I returned to my job here.

The State of Washington is facing a budget crisis and is cutting everything.  The state pays the school districts for basic education so teacher positions are being cut, so no one is hiring.   It doesn't help that congress is making or threatening to make cuts to lots of programs that help fund schools, too.

bad timing, CA has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. thousands of teachers are being laid off or there is talk of laying teachers off. all the cities have budget short falls. if you had special teaching credentials like for handicapped or autistic children, there is a need for those. it's not
easy to get a job anywhere in Ca no matter what you do. you probably should have come check the situation out before you came down.
