My aunt has just moved into a new house which has been empty for six months. With the windows being shut for all this time and the previous occupant being a heavy smoker, the place stinks. We've washed the carpets which she doesn't want to throw out as they are fairly new and in great condition, lit incense sticks and left windows open day and night but smell is still there. Can anyone help plz.

If you put 1/4 vodka and 3/4 water in a bottle it works as a deodorizer ... another suggestion would be to just try different things until you find what works, like washing the walls with bleach, febreeze, lysol (disinfectant spray)...etc....
yea the smoke lingers! but get some burners and the candle t lights and a few of the yankee candle tablets they are strong and will take the smell away and better and cheaper than the yankee candle's try to keep the windows open a little and yes the soda bicarb on the carpets are great then hoover hope this helps?
portray would not incredibly do away with that smell. earlier it became into painted the partitions and ceiling could have been washed with TSP - then thoroughly rinsed with water. Then it is going to have been painted with an oil based primer like KILZ earlier it became into portray. Plus if the guy had lived there for a protracted time - that smell won't get out of the carpet. the owner could have replaced the carpet (and wiped sparkling and primed the wood floor below) Plus the heating ducts might might desire to be wiped sparkling. I had a real stable smell in my homestead as quickly as we bought it and we had to do all those issues. maximum possibly your landlord is going to grant you a complicated time approximately doing the job top.
Sugar soap is good but vinegar will help get rid of the nicotine on the wall. Add them together. After vinegar smell goes away the musty will go with it the nicotine is a sticky substance that will coat walls and ceilings. incense is just as bad and the smell won't stay.
