Estimate how many times and what meals that the average American would eat out... you decide.

I will try to show a way to do this. OK. Breakfast, stop at deli or 7/11 pick up coffee and roll or pastry... benefit of the doubt...$3. 10 o’clock snack with drink… benefit of the doubt… $2. Lunch, drink and sandwich… benefit of the doubt… $5. 3 o’clock break... drink and snack benefit of the doubt... $2. Dinner... $5. Late night snack with milk... $2. My total comes out to $20 throwing in $1 for all the benefit of the doubts. So that comes to an amazing $140 per week.

I've been eating a lot of Ramen noodles since nursing classes began. I spend nothing for my water (refill my bottle at home or school) and Ramen packs are like 15 cents at the store, when purchased in bulk. I also eat a lot of yogurt @ 50 cents a cup. I'd say on my "cheap days" I can get away with about $1.30 a day but certain times of the month I need a lot of meat in my diet so of course it varies for me.

I have actually tracked my food spending the last 16 months and it is about $6.50 per day. And that includes all condiments and alcohol....once in a while.
I actually eat anything I want and of course I cook at home.
The money I save by eating at home versus at a restaurant 4-5 times a week can get me a payment on a new car.

Depends on if they are eating at home or out and about.
