Can someone please explain to me why Obama has flip flopped on the Debt limit?

March 20, 2006: This was the last stand-alone debt limit vote on which then-Senator Obama voted. He
was one of 48 members to vote against the increase, which passed with 52 votes.
Obama said: “The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Sorry Hector- the things that destroyed this economy where all done by Clinton

1993- North American Free Trade Agreement
1995- Community Reinvestment Act
2000- Commodities Futures Modernization Act

I think you need to read up a little

In 2006, the economy was still booming, and the government could afford to balance its budgets. Also, with Republican majorities in both houses of Congress, Obama could assume an increase in the debt limit would pass regardless of how he voted. It's easy to take a political stand when their is little risk of such a stand actually causing problems.

Now, though, the economy is still weak from the recent recession, and Republicans actually can stop an increase in the debt ceiling if they really wanted to.

Edit: March 20, 2006 happened nearly a year before Democrats took control of Congress. If it wasn't actually voted on until 2007, why mention that date?

They have on choice. If there is a dollar default life in America will make the Mad Max movies look like a happy fairy tale.

When Obama announces the cuts to Medicaid and Medicare in his speech this afternoon it will speed up American evolution, since those programs enable the unfit to survive.
This will also increase the differential reproduction rate of the fittest of Americans and lower the reproduction rates of the unfit. As well as eliminating the demands on resources by the unfit once they have been physically eliminated.

This must be Obama’s promised “change we can believe in’ that we were told to wait for.
The Democratic Party is really starting to deliver on it’s promises.

That was before he was the leader, now it is OK to raise the debt. Kinda like Kerry, I voted for the bill before I voted against it. All politicians are alike in this manner.

The economy was being mismanaged when Bush was president. Obama inherited that administration's fiascos and desperate times call for desperate measures.
