Why do christians want to "save" the rest of us? Why not let us continue along without "Gods help"?

When you see those who say: "i love you and i want to save you", why does it matter to you when you know that we are set in our ways?

I think they are competing for their god's love. Like, whoever converts the most atheists wins a seat in heaven in the FRONT ROW!!! Something like that. I think that they think they are increasing their own chances of getting into heaven by trying to get others to sign up.

And the other reason is this: The teachings of that church are so incredibly unbelievable, illogical and unreasonable that they must, on some level, be aware of it. They must realize that their beliefs are pretty unbelievable, and so they want to recruit more people because they feel that the more people there are who DO believe in it, the more likely it is to ACTUALLY be TRUE.

It is not true,no matter how many members the church claims it has, no matter how many sheep sign up. The trend has been quite the reverse though, with people leaving the church in droves.

Great question!

If I had to go through life believing that the majority of mankind was going to burn alive for eternity, I guess I would be trying to "save" everybody too. In fact, I'd probably wind up in a mental institution if I honestly thought such a thing. I would be begging and pleading "unsaved" family members and trying to go to Africa to save all those people who haven't even seen a Bible or heard of Jesus, but are still apparently going to burn even though they couldn't help it. I mean, really. Just THINK about it. Billions of human beings burning alive forever. I think many Christians don't even stop to REALLY think about this, but the ones that do are the ones frantically trying to "save" people.. I personally never could see how this was a rational thing for a God to do, and I could never go through life believing that, but I guess I just have a little too much compassion towards others.

The Christian who wants to "save" you hasn't studied his religion. The informed believer understands that no person can save another. And I'm glad I'm not charged with that responsibility. Nevertheless, we do have an obligation to spread the Gospel of Christ to anyone who wants to hear.

Yeah I've heard this before: "i love you and i want to save you".

Okay short, sweet answer to your question.

They can't save you! They are not God! They are not Jesus, Buddha, Allah or Mother Mary. They are people and people are not God.

So let's get that part straight. Now if they believe they can "save" you, then they are suffering from the God delusion.

When I say to the wicked, You shall surely die; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked one shall die in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at your hand. Yet if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. And when the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and when I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the righteous so that the righteous does not sin, and if he does not sin, he shall surely live because he is warned; also you have delivered your soul.
