What are the benefits of DDWRT? People I trust keep telling me that it is far superior than the regular router firmware but I only see a few small advantages and it seems you can easily break you router if you do it wrong.

DD-WRT can actually greatly increase the functionality of a standard router. With a DD-WRT router you can place a VPN passthrough within your router, thereby encrypting all data transferred across your network. Right now there are only a handful of sites that sell routers with DD-WRT already installed. I have found that https://www.flashrouters.com has the best all around support and info for purchasing a router with DD-WRT without having to worry about breaking your router during the 'flash' process.

The DDwrt firmware is awesome. ASUS routers don't come with it but gives you 1 year of support with it. Not all ASUS router support it though. Check in the details of the router on like www.newegg.com you run almost no chance of ruining the ASUS ones that support it.
