Love him or hate him, his status as our statesmen of Rock & Roll is undeniable. Through a career that has spanned 30 years, he has used his considerable celebrity wattage to shine the light on Civil Rights, AIDS Awareness & the forgiveness of third world debt. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bono#Humanitarian_work
I have long been a fan, and I have to say that I have found their performances to be uplifting and sometimes thrilling spectacles.

Happy Day, Bono! Punch, thanks for posting this!
I have been a fan since 1982, got to see them in a small club right before they got big--when they came back on the next leg of their tour they were playing coliseums. I've seen many bands, U2 puts on one of the best shows I've ever seen. I don't know why everyone hates him, they are in my top five favorite bands of all time...I will always love him and the band and the music they've given to the world.
My all time favorite U2 song: "Bad" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucuBimT-9m4&playnext=1&list=PLC5BB44101B37134F
followed by "Ultraviolet" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKK5YfkEimQ
Collaboration with Johnny Cash: "The Wanderer" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3YFmpSFJ40
1. Beautiful Day 2. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own 3. Vertigo 4. Walk On 5. All Because of You 6. Pride (In The Name of Love) 7. Elevation 8. Get on Your Boots 9. Window in the Skies 10. Stuck in a Moment That You Can't Get Out Of
I'm celebrating Bono's birthday as well by listening to my U2 music.
Punch you have shamed me for being a day late on this. And I call myself a huge fan (hangs head in shame) I agree with all you said in your question. Happy Bday Bono. Now I hate picking a favorite of theirs as i feel like its picking one child over the other but i think ill go with 2 Shots of Happy One shot of Sad. This is a great version he did for frank Sinatra's 80th bday if you have never seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzgCPimHu7w By the way have you seen the trailer for the movie Killing Bono? Looks pretty good. I read the book and liked it, but that's no surprise. You may want to check out the movie trailer if you are interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYBGdb6Wr5I&feature=related
