Bees Help! can anyone tell me a little more about their habits.?

We have a bee colony who have taken up residency in one of our Tit-boxes. The box is on the shade side of the garage, but a bee stands on the entrance fanning his wings to keep things cool. As there is not a front ledge on this "Hive" they seem to fly around each other posssibly to pass on directions. The question I would like answered is without design will the colony survive?. The garden is well stocked with flowers and fruit trees.

Bees are really only interested in three things: nectar, pollen, and water. They'll survive since its a bee box and no other insect can go including bumble bees from causing a fight.

It should stand a pretty good chance.
In the wild, they'll nest in tree hollows that don't necessarily have ledges.
