@S- You sound like me. I agree, life does get in the way... If it were up to me I'd be on the back of a horse 24/7. :D Sorry that your guy is "accident prone"... doesn't sound like too much fun. Sonny is like that every once in a while... he sometimes forgets where his legs are.

1. At what age did you get your first horse? 6 2. What breed was your first horse? Quarter Horse (he was 14.2 pony) 3. Do you own/lease a horse? own 4. Describe the horses you own/lease (breed, age, discipline, ect) Quarter horse, Levi, 14 yo, western pleasure Holsteiner, Boomer, 9 yo, jumper 5. What's your favorite thing to do with your horses? ride bareback, lay on their back while they're grazing and just look up into the sky.
6. What's the story behind your horse? I got Levi when I was 6, and I got Boomer for my 16th birthday (all of my friends think I'm crazy for wanting a horse instead of a car or something, but that's just me!)
7. Do you ride western/english/bareback? all
8. How often do you ride? everyday
9. What is something unusual/funny that your horse does? Boomer always sticks out his tongue when he wants a treat, and Levi is terrified of butterflies or moths! I guess he thinks they're going to eat him :) Not the saber-tooth butterfly!!
10. Is your horse laid back or hot-headed? Levi is pretty laid back (except with butterflies), and Boomer is normally good, but he has his days.
11. What is something you want to do with your horse before you die? Go camping with them, mainly just create great memories
12. Why do you love horses? Because they love me, unconditionally. It doesn't matter if I'm not wearing any makeup, my hair's a mess, tears streaming down my face...they're always there for me.
13. What's your favorite breed, and why? Quarter Horse, just because they are so versatile
14. If you could create the "perfect" horse what would he/she look like? 17.1 hh, bay, blaze
15. Have you ever had a "horse scare" (bad accident, horse getting sick, ect) Yes, Levi was laying in his stall, and he wouldn't get up, he was sweating and looked really distressed. We called the vet out, she said it's probably sand colic, so she had to pump out his stomach with a tube, and he had to have emergency surgery. I was so scared.
16. Do you let other people ride your horses, or are you picky? Levi is fine with everyone, but with Boomer, you have to know deal with some of his shenanigans, so I am somewhat picky, but I just have to feel that you can handle it.
17. Anything else you want to add? Fun survey! 18. Can I see pictures?! I love pictures!! :D
1. Twelve and 362 days 2. Standardbred 3. I still own my first horse 4. She's a bay 16hh Standardbred mare, just turned 7 last month. I just use her for trails 5. Grooming her and teaching her tricks 6. She used to be a trotter on the race track but doesn't like to race or big crowds for that matter. She really just needs a loving home and a best friend that has time to ride her personally, and I can give her that. 7. English and bareback 8. I wish 24/7, but sadly only 3-4 times a week 9. Whenever I walk in the paddock she bolts to the gate with her top lip up 10. VERY LAID BACK. 11. Teach her to smile, jump without hands and gallop bare back 12. They give me freedom and happiness that people just can't provide for me. It's that simple. 13. Paints; they're gorgeous and so gentle 14. My horse. 15. I was galloping bareback on a pony and she spooked and I fell underneath a cow 16. I'll admit I get a bit jealous but if it's for the benefit of my horse, I'm all ears. 17. Her name is Maggie
1. 16- he was my 16th birthday present, in fact. 2. Half Arab, Half Welsh. 3. Own, and have owned horses off and on ever since I was 16. Have ridden since the age of 6, and started formal lessons at age 9. 4. My current horse is a foundation bred Appendix Quarter Horse mare that I do dressage on. She also jumps and is a retired polo horse. 5. Doing dressage and also trail riding every now and then. 6. I was given my present horse after it became clear that she was too slow and lazy for polo. She orignally belonged to my sister, who plays as a hobby. She has traits which make her an ideal dressage horse or lightweight show hunter. 7. English all the way, although I have ridden Western. I grew up riding in a Western saddle. I only ride bareback on horses that have lots of padding- it's not something I am all that comfortable doing.
8. As often as possible, weather and schedule permitting. Our arena is outside, and it's not covered, so I have to ride when the weather allows me to. 9. She likes to have her chest scratched- she has a sweet spot there, and will make the funniest faces when I rub it with the brush or my hand. 10. She's very laid back and lazy. I have to use spurs when I ride for that reason. 11. Breed her and raise a few foals from her (she's exceptionally well bred herself, and NO, I am not a BYB. Any foal I get from her will always have a home, whether as a polo horse or as a dressage horse for me. All colts will be gelded when they reach the appropriate age- we are not allowed to keep stallions in our area by covenant.) 12. This is a toughie- it's sort of like asking why the sun rises where it does. I love horses for lots of reasons- too many to name here. 13. Probably the Thoroughbred, because they are so versatile and can do so many things. 14. Another toughie. I don't know if I could ever create the "perfect" horse. 15. Bad accidents and sickness- yes, I've seen my share. The worst accident I ever saw involved a horse that basically committed suicide by running into a barbed wire cattle fence at full speed. He was cut wide open, and had to be destroyed due to shock and blood loss. I've never seen so much blood in any one place in my life, either before or since. I've also seen my share of bad colics, founder cases, and a few other accidents. 16. Sometimes, I let other people I know well and trust ride my mare, especially when I think she can benefit from it. 17. No, not really. 18. I would post a picture of my horse, but my computer won't allow it.
