Why is it that no matter how many feminists say that feminism is about gender equality...?

...people will always hang on the word of the few feminists who are militant?

There's no need for hateful answers. I generally want to realize what this mindset is all about. Why is it that the majority of feminists (and as a feminist, I am familiar with the feminist movement) fight for equality, but the few who don't are the ones who get attention?

Please back up your claims if you can as I truly want to understand what this is all about.

And I don't mean quote one or two "feminists." I want to know how you all know that the majority of feminists are misandrists.

We're not talking about Cuba. We're talking about women. Namely, American women since the majority of people here and people who appose feminism are American.

@Zippy - no evidence.

@Common Sense: I have been to feminist rallies (in which there were men) and I have visited many feminist websites. The majority of the attitudes there are that feminists are for equal rights. I've seen a few man-haters on those sites and have seen them told off by the feminists.

The few that are militant misandrists are the ones that are the noisiest about it. I do not believe all are like that. They have tainted the genuine movement for equality. For every Germaine Greer (I wont quote but look her up if you want) there are probably 100 who just want equality.

One thing that annoys me is the spell checker here doesn't recognise misandry but does recognise misogyny.

Edit:
If men are being discriminated against us men need to speak out against it and not accept it. Blaming feminism is just lazy.

It seems like the modern feminist movement is a bit corrupt.

If women have less rights than men somewhere, feminists are up in arms to help and to change things.

However, when the odds are stacked against men and in favor of women, it appears as though nothing is wrong with this. There is no action taken. Men get custody of their children far less often than women. Is this because men are evil or worse parents than women? No.

This is clearly an example of a system that favors women, and feminists aren't doing a darn thing to fix it or to make it equal because it is in their advantage.

People tend to react to the aspect of something that they see as a negative or feel is not truthful. People don't tend to be vocal about things they feel neutral about or are not issues.

I often point out that the actions feminists overall support are not about equality, because that's the area where I see feminists as being inconsistent and a feel a spade should be called a spade.

I'm also curious as to what you base your idea that most feminists only fight for equality on. By far most feminists I know support privileges for women, not just equal opportunity. (such as aa) Or they seek equal outcomes in when they haven't provided equal input (such as the wage gap)

Because men are not equal to women biologically, so any movement that tries to make them "equal" is going to have to knock the superior gender down a few pegs to make it look like we are equal. Take the school system for example, its biased in favor women, and women do better. But when it comes to the workforce, where feminists haven't completely put it in favor of women yet, men outperform.

Liberals vilify republicans for the deeds of the few and vice versa. Feminism is basically a political party so what's the difference and why does this surprise you?
