Is there a need for a 1000 yard ak?
If you watch sons of guns they just made a 1000 yard ak. What is the point? Really why would you need to go through all that work to get a gun that many other guns are more capable of doing???

The AK system has a reputation for being dead on reliable. Soak it in water, dump it in mud, pour sand all over it and it still just works. It's also known to be at best a 300 yard gun, too inaccurate for aimed shots even at that distance.
What Will Hayden was trying to accomplish was meld the reliability with several tricks to make a much more accurate rifle. It's his shop and his TV show so he can do whatever he wants. It was a nice little exercise in custom gun work.
Truth is, shooters out at the pointy end who need a thousand yard gun are using Barrett 50s or custom bolt actions in .338 Lapua or the .300 Win Mag. True, shots have been made with the short action M40 in 7.62 NATO, but that is absolute maximum range for that gun and cartridge.

There isn't any need. You can buy a Springfield Armory M1A that will do the same thing. But people tune in to see interesting projects. Like turning a bullet chucker like the AK into an accurate rifle.

Need and want are two different things. I need a car. I want my lincoln To do 140 flat out. Does 120 now.... If you have the $$$$, anything is possible.
