I don't specifically mean Michelle Obama or for that matter any previous First Lady. But it seems they always have to be out there in the public view. I heard the idea of a salary brought up last year. Of course they have all those perks and later a multi million dollar book deal. So should they be paid?

There is no requirement that the first lady do anything. They do it by choice to either help their spouse get reelected and/or to do some good for the people of the country. And yes they have plenty of perks and the chance to make a lot of money on book deals.

No, the prez makes enough and if she took it there would be too much criticism . Not worth it because she will eventually get wealthy with the book deals and all.

Yeah, they get to live rent-free for four years in a mansion w/ all amenities included also cars/chauffeurs.
