Looking for a good contractor to do major home renovations.?
How can I find a good / trustworthy contractor. I am inland from LA, California. I don't know anybody who has had any renovations done recently, and am not sure where to look for someone to complete the task (well). We're looking to redo floors of the whole house, bathrooms, and the kitchen.
What is the best way to find a GOOD contractor and/or designer. If you have any personal recommendations, sites, or places I should go, that is also welcome :)

Realized I didn't phrase that too well. We want to completely remodel the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as redo the floors of the whole house (likely in laminate wood-like flooring - we have a pool so don't want to do real wood).

Look for someone licensed and insured; ask for references and pictures of their work. By the way.laminate flooring is very susceptible to moisture; not a good alternative for an area that will have significant moisture; kitchen/bath, etc. The backing is basically a fibreboard and if it gets wet it will swell and the material will buckle. Hardwoods are fine if you wipe up the moisture and have a good poly coating on them. Ceramic is the most impervious to moisture.
