Finding info on Dorothy Jane Krueger Smith and Clarice B. Covert?

I am a fairly experienced family researcher, so my daughter (a 3rd year law student) came to me for help on finding information on two women involved in military murder cases. These women were tried by court martial, found guilty, and sentenced to life in prison. The cases were Reid v. Covert and Kinsella V. Krueger. The Supreme Court overturned the convictions and both women went free. That was in 1956. My daughter has to write a paper on the Supreme Court cases for a class she is taking with Justice Clarence Thomas. We have found out quite a bit about Clarice Covert who murdered her husband in England, but very little on Dorothy Krueger Smtih who murdered her husband, Col. Aubrey D. Smith, in Japan. Dorothy was the daughter of famed WWII general Walter Krueger. Her life is pretty easy to trace up until her marriage. My daughter would like to know what happened to Dorothy and her two teenage children after her conviction was overturned and she want free. She went to San Antonio, TX and lived there with her father. We can find nothing at all about her life after the death of Gen. Krueger or the lives of her children. Clarice Covert also had two young male children and we have found nothing on them. We know that Clarice died in CA. Her children's names were probably Bruce E. Covert and Barry L. Covert, based on ship's passenger records for passage to England along with their mother.

I have searched everything I know to search, and that is quite a lot. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Wendy. Your answer confirms what I thought. I imagine that both women kept very low profiles after their release. One of Clarice Covert's children died and we did find that. We don't know the names of Dorothy's children and will probably not find them, as I know that finding living people, even in a family tree, is quite difficult. I appreciate your answer.

Maxi, that is a good thought and one I hadn't considered. I think it is more likely that the paternal grandparents were given custody of the children. Clarice and Edward Covert's children were very young and probably came back to the US after she was arrested to live with the grandparents. Dorothy and Aubrey Smith's children were 17 and 15 and also probably were sent back to the states to live with Aubrey's parents. I doubt we will find them and that is alright. My daughter's primary interest was in what happend to the women after they were released from prison. It appears they led quiet lives out of the public eye. Thank you for that idea though. It is a good one.

the answer is probably in two factors. One, the approximate date of the cases suggest that any children would still be living. They would be unlikely to show up in any reputable genealogical sources, for that reason.
Second.. considering that both women were involved in what were probably very hostile situations (murders tend to do that), I would be very surprised if those children have not made efforts to remain out of the public eye.
There may be information through something like google. Yahoo's policy is to not post info about living persons.

It is very likely and certainly with the English case and because of the date that they were given new information and IDs to protect them and any children they may have had after their conviction was quashed to enable them to be safe and have a new life...............................
