Christians: Do you think that secular society has robbed men of their role as leaders of the family?

I was listening to Christian radio and a speaker said that now that men aren't expected to play a role "as a man" like opening doors for women, and being the primary breadwinner, and being considered vital as a role model for their family, that men are not doing as well as they used to do in providing stability for their families and by extension society as a whole.

What do you think?

I was just discussing this on this forum with someone the other day brother Martin. I don't watch TV, but when I did I think modern day sitcoms say it all in what our society thinks of men. Fathers and husbands in today's sitcoms are portrayed as fat lazy slobs with no brains and women these brilliant sex pots who constantly have to take up the slack for their idiot husbands. We can thank liberalism and the radical feminist movement for this.

I could give the names of many sitcoms that portray men in just this way, but I think you get the point. Satan knows that men are the head of the family which is why he so attacks them as he does. To answer your question. Yes, secular society has in many regards robbed them of their role. Or is trying to anyways.

Sadly many on this forum will see the current social trends in family unites as progress, but looking at our society and where it's headed you and I know better.Liberalism and radical feminism is even finding it's way into the Church. Hence the Christian answers here supporting the current social trends.

Truly we are in the last days brother Martin. And things will continue to get darker just as God's word said it would. Hang onto Jesus with everything in you because it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Great thinking here. Yes, man is currently not having the role of merely breadwinner and cold figure of the leader of family. The woman is emerging more and more.

But the role of providing stability for the family is more crucial. Bonding relationship within the family, by a living example of a good , loving , graceful and communicative Father, who is just an extension of the image of our Father in heaven, is more important than all. Father is the locomotive who will direct the family whether towards God or towards destruction. All depends on the father, and not the mother, as the mother will also look up to the father.

Adam had failed this duty, but the second Adam our Lord Jesus Christ, has renewed this and imputed His completed work on the cross , unto us the believers to receive the authority, powered by Holy Spirit, of the real function of a father in Christ, that Christ will take the lead in our life, and everything else will be added in our life according to His riches and glory.

Shalom,

Secular society tries to rob us of our Christian heritage and everything to do with it.

Opening doors is a small thing when it comes to all the things women need men to be for them. If men run around drinking, and cheating on their wives, ignoring the children and blowing up over minor things or when their stability is needed badly, they are total failures as husbands even if they are holding down a job. Too many men run off and leave women with all the hard work of raising children by themselves, and when women have to have two jobs in order to make ends meet, the children are left alone quite often for hours. There are too many situations where selfishness is ruining families like that.

I think the worse thing we women ever did was ask for equality & do all the Women's Lib Movement ... it just got us going off to work & leaving our kids to fend for themselves just for us to keep up w/ the Joneses. Then after that, many men backed off & let the women take the lead! Oh yeah, and then the women come home & still have several more hrs work. I don't think it is secular society per se but rather satan!

I think men should 'wear the pants' IF they earn that role!

I do not, in any way, condone a man acting as if the woman is supposed to be subservient.

God help our men get their backbones back.

Most definitely! They have robbed man of their maleness as well. the "feminist movement" has attempted to make male and female the same. While they may be equal in many ways, they are not the same. God, himself, made a definite difference. As a result, the family as a whole has suffered but especially the children. This has been going on since around the '60's, and it appears to be getting worse. No one can tell me this is a good thing.
