Passing game changing the NFL for good, what do you think?

There was an article on NFL.com about how the passing game is changing the game with more teams throwing every single play, but it might ruin the game. The NFL is changing just like the NBA has. All the primary sports are catering to new fans and more "exciting" "big play" type competition. The NBA has dunks and three pointers (no defense, no passing skills, no footwork, no shooting skills if you dunk usually, etc.) The NFL is letting rules dictate more explosive offensive plays too. The result, no defense and high offense. The only good thing remaining about football is the team concept of the sport. What the NFL has been doing over the last few years is neuter defenses to allow high scoring games for TV and the ADD generation of Madden and fantasy inspired fans. The NFL doesnlt want a contest between o and d, it wants a shootout between offenses with the defense being there to provide the illusion of a contest.

The NFL is becoming the Arena Football league and that is NOT good. What do you think?

Discuss.

edit: Yeah don't get me wrong I love shootouts, but every single game? Thats where we are headed.

I definitly hear you.The running game is much more exciting than the passing game. And while it is exciting to watch a shootout, I also think it is equally, if not more exciting to watch 2 high powered defenses duke it out in a low scoring game. The new NFL rules are very angering towards me because they are very anti-defense. Especially rules regarding QBs and their safety. Players getting fined every week for simply tackling someone a little too hard. Its pathetic to put it lightly.

well, I mean its been a transition we've seen coming for a while now. but I doubt it will stay like this, it's got a lot to do with the lockout and the new rules for practices. no more 2-a-days. Coaches haven't had time to emphasize good tackling and its showing on the field. the passing we are seeing now is a lot to do with the fact that tackling looks awful. plus the new rules that goodell put into place favor the passing game. u cant hit a receiver right when he makes a catch now, he has to have time to turn his body upfield or protect himself, thats not football and a horrible rule change, but its still there. receivers are protected as much as QB's were 5 years ago, so that helps the pass game too. I do miss the good old ground and pound games, but I think they'll be back by the time november and december hit.

I dont like passing games i prefer the run, much more exciting when a running back runs between the tackles and comes out of a pack of 7 people and gets a huge run

If you haven't noticed its not the passing game that has been good its the pass defense than has been poor. Plus McFadden, Peterson and MJD are on track to run for over 1600 yards this season.

I hate the changes in the NFL. I rather see power running games and strong defenses.
