Can anybody help me with factoring an expression?

I was absent due to a surgery, and my teacher never gave me the in-class notes for when I was absent. okay, so for one thing, how do i factor expressions and how do i know if it can't be? here's an example:
2x^2 + 5x + 2.
And how do I solve this type of equation:
2x^2 - 3x + 1 = 0. Please and thank you.

Quadratic equation.
(-5+-sqrt(5^2-4*2*2))/(2*2)
(-5+-sqrt(25-16))/(4)
(-5+-sqrt(9))/(4)
(-5+-3)/4
-8/4 and -2/4
Solutions are -2 and -1/2

You should factor this one.
Factors of 2:
1,2
Factors of 1:
1,1
Figure out which factor of 2 should be multiplied with which factor of 1 and added to get -3.
(2x-1)(x-1)
Set each part equal to zero.
2x-1=0
x=1/2
x-1=0
x=1
The solutions are 1/2 and 1.
