what happens if i leave a 10V battery plugged to a 12V device charging lithium cells ?
will the internal circuit of the device just cut the power from the external battery, or do i risk damaging the components on that circuit ?

Lithium Hydride batteries contain internal circuitry to keep the battery from over and undercharging, because they can cause fires. However, if the circuitry is ever triggered, the battery is then usually, effectively destroyed.

The charge will not be damaged, because it has built in protection. However, the battery may be damaged. Don't do it.
