Best Affordable, Economical and Reliable Car for daily long travel (60 miles +)?

Question

Hi, recently had to start driving long journeys daily for work. Now driving a Suzuki Wagon R+ 1.3 auto (04 Reg) and getting about 40mpg (UK Standards) out of that driving on the M1 mainly.
I'm now looking to change to a more Motorway Worthy Car, but save even more by using diesel instead of Unleaded Petrol. Any ideas from experience out there ? Auto would be nice though but not a major condition.

Any small VW, polo, lupo, fox, skoda fabia. All good for 50-60 a gallon on motorway.However I agree if it aint boke keep it , a little less right foot when cruising at motorway speed will probably stretch you to 45-48 , Best of luck

If you buy a new or different car it will probably take you a couple of years before you break even on the deal.  If your Suzuki is still running good I would keep it.   Good Luck

won't be able to pass incorrect with a Honda or Toyota and for that quantity of money you received't come across a lot with lower than 150K miles yet it really is nice if it became maintained and the timing belt became replaced. also probable be searching at a vehicle equipped contained in the late 80'S to very early ninety'S for the money you pick to spend.
