The Lakota are an orginasation of seven praire dwelling Sioux tribes who all speak Lakota. Crazy Horse was a chief of what the French called the Minneconjou Band. I wont insult our Native friends by offering to spell or pronounce the actual name of this Band. So, as a Minneconjou, Crazy Horse was NOT a member of the Oglala band. The Lakota are also known as the Teton Sioux.
Remember that modern classifications are based on language groups and are not necessarily an accurate depiction of historical relations. The designation Lakota is Native American in origin, as is the seven bands which comprised it. I would forget the whole Sioux concept because it is a deceptive blanket term for too many Native American tribal bands....Show more
