The game is for an adult who doesnt have a lot of time to play. He only has a couple of hours on a weekend, so it would have to be something that you can put down after a couple of hours. He just got the game system, so he is having issues learning which buttons to press, so something that is simple to play would be great. Any ideas? He likes all types of games, not big on the shooter ones though.

i would recommend halo wars which is a command and conquer game it's a good game, or mayb a need for speed style game, if he plays online then prob fifa games or summit like that

Definitely the better options would be Forza 4 and Nfs run,
Nfs run and forza 4 would provide you with the least buttons required thus making it hell of a fun for him but if he was to spend few hours on it then the online playing is the best option as it does not conquers your mind they are just for the time when you are playing them. Online games like Mw3 and Bf3 were preferred but as he is not into shooter games so...... From my research you would be able to find the best games here including the forza 4 and nfs run:

Skyrim came out last month and I love it. It's a RPG and can be played for a couple hours at a time.

I think any racing game(i.e. Forza, need for speed) would be good. Maybe an rpg like assassins creed. Open world games are good because you can explore and learn at your own pace.

Start him off with the basic stuff. Gears of War and Halo should be fine for him for now
