My rule of thumb for margaritas is to get the cheapest possible 100% agave tequila you can get. And to use a silver (blanco). No need to waste a high end sipping tequila when it will be masked by the other margarita ingredients. But, also don't use that cheap crap that is not even 100% agave.

Mark's advice is spot-on. No point in using the super expensive shizz in your margs, but don't even think of using anything that's not 100% agave. You can find reasonable 100% agave offerings all over, such as Lunazul, el Jimador, Camarena and tons more. Never settle for sh!t like Sauza Gold a/o Cuervo Gold- it's not even legally tequila and tastes nasty.

The classic recipe is 3-2-1. Three parts tequila, two parts orange liqueur, one part fresh lime juice. You can adapt the proportions to suit your taste.

Never use any crap called sour mix. It's loaded with preservatives, tastes absolutely heinous and tells the world you have no idea what you're doing. Seriously, how hard is it to squeeze a few limes?

I tend bar. My margarita made its own name. It is called a mighty mini margarita. I use Sauza Gold (have used regular). But it is the combination of everything and the order poured that makes it work!

1/2 oz Triple sec
1/2 oz tequila
mostly fill a rocks glass with ice then the above then with sweet sour mix
splash of lime juice
garnish with a lime wedge (don't squeeze!)
