Why do people ask personal question?(serious question, plz no lolegaging)?

a close friend or family is understandable. On a date understandable. But someone you just met does it, you can't help wonder why? This is one question I can just not seem to come up with a answer to. A good attempt I read on a blog was that, they get bored. Still it seems lacking. ?

Another reason is that they don't have anything else to say or ask, since they barely met you. They try to get to know how you are & possibly, they may have also gone through things related to the question.

I would assume they ask because they really want to know the answer.  Often people ask this if they are romantically interested in the other person.
