Is the general contractor of a construction site responsible for injuries sustained by the subcontractor?

Is the general contractor of a construction site responsible for injuries sustained by the subcontractor in the state of Kentucky? My dad, a subcontractor, was electrocuted while on a job site, and I wanted to know if the general contractor is responsible for his incident?

Thanks! (10 points to first correct answer)

EDIT:

He was a contractor owner/operator, if that makes a difference. If not, who would be responsible for the job site(s)?

As always, you have to define your terms. If your dad was a contractor, subcontracting to another contractor, he had his own insurance, right? Any injuries would have been covered by his own insurance. If you're thinking of a lawsuit, you *really* need legal help, not just Y!A sympathy. If you have any contracts between the general contractor and your dad (to perform specific tasks, etc.), take them to an attorney and be factual. Don't say what a terrific guy, what a decent husband he is, yadda yadda. Limit your discussion to the facts surrounding the accident and the documents you have regarding the contractual agreements. An initial consultation should be modest, maybe even free. At this time, you'll know more about local practices and what a lawsuit could cost you and gain you. A better answer really isn't possible. ... Take documents, talk facts. Best of luck!!!
