I am thinking of cancelling my home phone service, and switching to VoIP. I have been researching this two companies (NetTalk and Magic Jack Plus) and don't know what to choose. If you can please help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

i can't comment on net talk but. Magic Jack is great for the money It's as cheap as it can get. I've used it for more than two years. IMHO it's great value. You can't beat free long distance anywhere in Canada or the U. S. It's a real money saver and works very well. although occasionally you may get a dropped call or minor interference, dropped calls are few and far between. The only time in my experience it isn't really good and you may get a lot of interference is when you may be running several applications at the same time, i.e. burning a DVD or cd. or chatting in a chat room. Several friends and relatives have also bought it and we are all extremely satisfied. Although I turn my computer off at night, calls are still answered and I receive the messages from the server the next time I boot up.

The 1st year it costs you 40.00U.S. from then on $20.00 per year.
In Canada where I live it's $50.00 the first year which includes buying it plus$10.00 for a Canadian area code, the 2nd year it's$20.00 plus 10.00 for the Canadian area code

A suggestion. Buy it from a local retailer, try it out, if it doesn't suit return it to the retailer for a refund. If you buy online or from an info commercial and run into a problem it may take some time to get a refund from magic jack. By mistake I triple ordered using the info commercial and although they advertised that charges wouldn't be processed for 30 days my visa card was charged immediately. I returned the 2 extra magic jacks for a refund but it took more than a month to get the credit. Another suggestion, after buying make the transition from your current provider gradually don'tget rid of your current line until you've tried magic jack for awhile. and are satisfied.

Never tried NetTalk.

I have both a Magic Jack and a Magic Jack plus. Magic Jack plus is pretty nice, just plug in a phone, plug it into your network and you are done.

We cancelled our landline - but we don't give out the magic jack number much - we just use it when we call home (knowing we have more phones around the house than cell phones) - or for ordering pizza. We use our cell phones as our primary phones.

Anyway, there are a couple of issues with the Plus. You can't change the outgoing volume and there have been people that told me to speak up.

I'd say that you can always return it - don't cancel your landline right away, try it and see if you like it.
