NetTalk vs Magic Jack?
I am thinking of cancelling my home phone service, and switching to VoIP. I have been researching this two companies (NetTalk and Magic Jack Plus) and don't know what to choose. If you can please help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

i can't comment on net talk but. Magic Jack is great for the money It's as cheap as it can get. I've used it for more than two years. IMHO it's great value. You can't beat free long distance anywhere in Canada or the U. S. It's a real money saver and works very well. although occasionally you may get a dropped call or minor interference, dropped calls are few and far between. The only time in my experience it isn't really good and you may get a lot of interference is when you may be running several applications at the same time, i.e. burning a DVD or cd. or chatting in a chat room. Several friends and relatives have also bought it and we are all extremely satisfied. Although I turn my computer off at night, calls are still answered and I receive the messages from the server the next time I boot up.

The 1st year it costs you 40.00U.S. from then on $20.00 per year.
In Canada where I live it's $50.00 the first year which includes buying it plus$10.00 for a Canadian area code, the 2nd year it's$20.00 plus 10.00 for the Canadian area code
A suggestion. Buy it from a local retailer, try it out, if it doesn't suit return it to the retailer for a refund. If you buy online or from an info commercial and run into a problem it may take some time to get a refund from magic jack. By mistake I triple ordered using the info commercial and although they advertised that charges wouldn't be processed for 30 days my visa card was charged immediately. I returned the 2 extra magic jacks for a refund but it took more than a month to get the credit. Another suggestion, after buying make the transition from your current provider gradually don'tget rid of your current line until you've tried magic jack for awhile. and are satisfied.

Never tried NetTalk.
I have both a Magic Jack and a Magic Jack plus. Magic Jack plus is pretty nice, just plug in a phone, plug it into your network and you are done.
We cancelled our landline - but we don't give out the magic jack number much - we just use it when we call home (knowing we have more phones around the house than cell phones) - or for ordering pizza. We use our cell phones as our primary phones.
Anyway, there are a couple of issues with the Plus. You can't change the outgoing volume and there have been people that told me to speak up.
I'd say that you can always return it - don't cancel your landline right away, try it and see if you like it.

NetTalk is the same garbage. The customer service is unreachable. Only chat available which will take forever till some agent starts chatting with you. The connection is not reliable at all, very often is off for unknown reason and it takes you hours to report and get it fixed. The sound is not always clear, sometimes you have to call back. And they raise the price every year, last year was $39.99 with taxes, this year it's $49.99. Overall, I would give it only 2.5 stars.

there are many problems with magicjack... such as not terminating calls to certain rural destinations http://blog.nyphonejacks.com/2011/06/rural-carrier... and having to deal with online chat as the only means of communication with the company for any technical or billing issues. and unless you opt for the magicjack plus then you will need to keep your PC on all the time....
the nettalk is very similarly priced as the magicjack i think it is about $10 more per month... unfortunately i do not have any hands on experience with this device, nor do i have any second hand experience with anyone that i know owning one.. but if the choice is of only those two, i would choose this one...
there are many other options, such as ooma or vonage... http://blog.nyphonejacks.com/2009/12/vonage-vs-oom...
but if you are trying to go for the most dirt cheap service possible, then nothing beats free, and you can get an obi100 or obi 110 and connect it with a google voice number.. http://blog.nyphonejacks.com/2011/05/use-your-goog...

Don't know about Nettalk, but have had Magicjack for about 7 years. Although Magicjack advertises unlimites calls in the US or Canada, you cannot call Alaska, Yukon, or Northwest Territories. I am going to try Nettalk.

VOIP has a few good services available. Magic Jack is not a good choice... I tried it.......bad.....Echoes, loss of service, dropped calls, poor to no customer service....It's a toy!! (and who wants to leave their computer on all the time to get a call.??)

NetTALK is the better out of the two. I have been using it. This voip provider offers cheap call plans for making and receving calls within the US and Canada. Check out: http://www.nettalk.com/en/competition
