In terms of pay, the Middle East usually has the highest salaries although they also usually have the highest requirements for their teachers. You will probably need an advanced degree like a Masters or at least several years teaching experience. If you have a bachelor's degree, you can look for good opportunities in Japan, South Korea, or Taiwan, where the salaries for beginning teachers start between $2,000-2,500. Keep in mind that this is for only 25 teaching hours a week.

ESL HitchHiker has a lot of information about this. For more information about your question, I'd recommend these sections:

ESL is a federal program that has been a failure from day one! No child should sit in ESL classes for more than 2 years and some sit in them for 10-12. There was a pilot program, english immersion. It failed because it worked. Typical government waste.

Jobs in the Middle East usually pay the best. But they expect high qualifications and experience in return.
